George Raczynski

Jerzy “George” Raczynski, 87, of Stockholm, NJ, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 at home after a valiant fight against cancer.

George was born in Kraków, Poland to Jan and Genowefa (Staszczyk) Raczynski on May 17, 1938. After graduating high school, he studied pharmaceutical chemistry and worked in that field, later working as a coal miner. In 1959, he married Zosia Bryla and later welcomed two children. In 1969, George and his family emigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, NY where he worked many jobs before eventually becoming an elevator mechanic for the Metropolitan Life Insurance building in New York City. He later became a sub-code elevator inspector for the State of New Jersey.

George and Zosia raised their children in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Irvington, NJ before finally settling in Stockholm, NJ. Upon retirement, George and Zosia enjoyed travelling back to Poland and visiting other exciting locations, both domestically and internationally. George had been an amateur actor in Poland and also enjoyed poetry, reading about history (especially Polish history), watching documentaries, and socializing with friends and family. He was a longtime parishioner at Saints Cyril & Methodius Church in Boonton, NJ.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Zosia, of Stockholm, NJ; sons Peter Raczynski and his wife Mi Hye of Panama City, FL, and Voytek Raczynski of Stockholm, NJ; and granddaughter Marissa Raczynski of Stockholm, NJ, along with many loving extended family members.

Funeral service and burial will be held at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, PA on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Shriners Children’s Hospital.
