Our beloved Jacqueline Lorraine Shayland (née Walker), affectionately known as Jackie, left us peacefully on July 28, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on May 27, 1960, Jackie filled our lives with boundless love, incredible strength, and unwavering devotion.
Jackie was a devoted wife to Robert E. Shayland Jr. for 40 wonderful years, a loving mother to her daughter, Chyna Monique Shayland, and her husband, Stephen Dewitt, and a doting grandmother to her cherished grandson, Alexander Royale Spence, and her fur-grandchildren, Chance and Nova. She was also a treasured part of many other extended relatives’ lives, all of whom felt her warmth and kindness.
Jackie shared a special, lifelong bond with her dear mother, Virginia Lee Coles, who passed away in November 1998, and her brother, Ronald Edward Walker, who left us on July 31, 2015. Though we mourn their loss, we find comfort knowing Jackie is now reunited with them — free from all physical and mental pain, finally at peace.
As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, Jackie’s love was boundless. She was known for her gentle affection, her generous heart, and the way she made everyone around her feel cared for and cherished. She had a special love for animals — especially dogs — the bright, sunny color yellow, the soft, joyful combination of pink and purple, the enchanting spirit of Tinkerbell and Betty Boop, and all things “cute”. Jackie found joy in experiencing life through shopping, cooking, and creating, and treasured the simple, beautiful moments spent watching her favorite TV shows surrounded by her loved ones.
Her journey was not an easy one. Diagnosed with brain and lung cancer in 2015, Jackie fought with extraordinary courage for ten years. She faced and defeated cancer, multiple strokes, and many other health challenges with an indomitable spirit that never gave up. Even through the hardest days, her warmth and sense of humor remained a beacon of light for all of us.
In her final days, surrounded by love, Jackie showed the same quiet strength that defined her life. She passed peacefully on her own on July 28, 2025, after experiencing bleeding in the brain on the evening of July 26th.
Though our hearts are broken, Jackie’s love and spirit will live on forever in all who knew her. We are endlessly grateful for the time we shared, the lessons learned, and the memories she gifted us.
May our Jackie rest peacefully now, embraced by grace and eternal love.
With love and gratitude for every moment we shared,
Robert (husband) & Chyna (daughter)
